Hello, welcome to Enhanced Editions! We’re really excited that you’ve made it here.

We’ve been in planning, development, and stealth mode for about 13 months. And we’re thrilled to be launching a new company at such an exciting time in publishing. Here’s the headlines about what makes us tick.

Who?

We’re a bunch of passionate publishing, design, web, and film guys, with a vision: to take everything great about books, roll it up with everything great about the iPhone (and in the future, other devices), and to use our experience to create what we hope are out-of-the-ballpark reading experiences that people will love. Here’s some more details about who we are and what we’ve done before now.

What?

Enhanced Editions are ebooks the way nature intended. To us that means:

  • Honouring the design traditions of the book whilst giving the reader the ability to tailor-make it to their preferences
  • Including great pieces of original film (where relevant) that you can choose to watch in-line with the text, or at another time.
  • Synching audiobook (ideally unabridged and read by the author) to the text, so you can swap from one to the other. Why? Well if you walk and get the tube to work, you’ll know why.
  • Updating the “book” (and the reader!) with exlcusive news and extras
  • Encouraging readers to talk about and share the books they enjoy
  • Sensible pricing

Why?

A few reasons:

  • We love books, obviously
  • We love ebooks
  • But we thought that ebook devices, until the iPhone came along, were pretty rubbish. And really hard to get books onto.
  • We’ve been making films, websites, games, animations, toys, and apps for years – all inspired by our love of books. We felt it was time to roll all this stuff up into a new experience, and do our very best to see if we could make something almost better than the book that people felt was worth paying for.
  • The App store is an amazing marketplace, and the iPhone gace us the opportunity to do some things that you just can’t do with websites.

Which Books?

We’re starting really small. Each title we publish has a huge amount of time, thought and energy put into making it exactly the way we want it to. Hopefully people will notice all those little details and enjoy them as much as we do. To begin with, we are announcing six titles, although there are plenty more on the way.

All of these titles are published in the UK by Canongate Books, a publisher with whom we have a very long and successful past. Canongate is renowned for its innovation, risk-taking, and commercial acumen, as well as having a knack for publishing titles from the left field well into the mainstream.

These are the titles we are publishing in association with Canongate:

  • The Death of Bunny Munro by Nick Cave
  • Dreams From My Father by Barack Obama
  • The Audacity of Hope by Barack Obama
  • Homicide: Life on the Killing Streets by David Simon
  • The Corner by David Simon
  • Sum by David Eagleman

We have some other great titles in the pipeline with other publishers, as well as with Canongate,  so make sure you are subscribed to our mailing list to keep in touch with news as it comes.
