About Fiction Uncovered

Fiction Uncovered is a promotion to support our best fiction writers – those writers who deserve wider recognition but have yet to receive a major literary prize or media attention, or be picked for retailer promotions. The promotion is supported by Arts Council England and funded by the National Lottery. Retailers including Waterstone’s, Foyles, iBookstore, WH Smith, Amazon and The Book Depository will support the promotion. They are also working in partnership with The Reading Agency to reach libraries and reading groups, and with Lovereading UK to reach dedicated readers. You can see a full list of the Fiction Uncovered partners here.

Fiction Uncovered creates the opportunity for eight UK-based fiction writers (novels, short stories, graphic novels) to be part of a major promotion supported by retailers, and a major publicity and marketing campaign.

The eight titles for the Fiction Uncovered promotion are selected by a judging panel. The Chair of Judges for Fiction Uncovered 2011 was the author Giles Foden. He was joined by Damian Barr (author, playwright, journalist and host of the Shoreditch House Literary Salon), Simon Burke (Fiction Buying Manager, Waterstone’s) and Sarah Crown (Literary Editor, Guardian Online).

Fiction Uncovered also hosts a community website at www.fictionuncovered.co.uk which offers these eight selected writers – and an even broader group of writers through recommendation and endorsement – a chance to reach much-needed wider audiences. The website has a wider remit encouraging readers to uncover lost or forgotten fiction as well as new fiction.
